Melbourne Short Courses
Looking for a photography short course in Melbourne that actually teaches you something useful—without boring the life out of you? You’ve landed in the right place. Loop Art & Photo Space in Olinda (yep, just east of the ‘burbs) runs two hands-on, four-week courses designed for curious beginners, creative dabblers, and people who want to stop using “auto” like it’s a personality trait.
We keep things small, friendly, and low-pressure—because learning should feel good, not like a high school exam.
4 Week Beginner Photography Course
Perfect for: new camera owners, and total newbies
If you’ve ever said, “I want to take better photos, but I have no idea where to start,” this is your course. Over four weeks, you’ll learn how to see light, get off auto mode, and actually understand how your camera works.
Learn in-person at our cosy, art-filled space in Olinda
4 weekly sessions (2hrs each)
Group size: max 4 students
Bring your camera (or phone!) and a sense of play
4 Week Film Photography Course
Perfect for: vintage camera lovers, darkroom nerds, and anyone who’s film-curious
This one’s for the romantics. Shoot a roll, develop it by hand, and print your own black & white photographs in our fully equipped darkroom.
Runs in our working darkroom (yes, the real deal)
4 weekly sessions (2 hrs each)
Includes all chemistry, paper, and darkroom access
Just bring your own 35mm film camera (or borrow one from us)
Why Loop Photography Short Courses?
We’re not a photography school. We’re a creative space.
Loop Art & Photo Space is a little community hub in the Dandenong Ranges where things move slower and creativity feels lighter.
Classes are fun, relaxed, and led by a working film photographer (hi). You’ll walk away with real skills and a few good laughs too.
Getting Here
We’re in Olinda—an easy weekend drive from Fitzroy, Brunswick, Ringwood, Ferntree Gully, and the rest of Melbourne. Make a day of it. Take a class, explore the forest, grab a pastry. That’s the Loop way.
