In contrast to the photographs on show, our new studio & gallery space in Olinda is far from the hustle & bustle of the cityscapes in “Two Lives, Cities, Perspectives,” but perhaps that’s what made it the perfect location to host Nina Trillenberg & Nadja Arnold’s offical book launch and photography exhibition.
The Loop gallery space in Olinda, located at the top of Mt Dandenong, provided a picturesque setting for our very first photography exhibition & book launch. Despite being our big first event, we were thrilled to see a great turnout, both familiar faces and new visitors exploring the works on display.
What a response!
We were delighted by the positive response, with many attendees grabbing a copy of Nina & Nadja’s book. On top of that, we had to rush out and grab some red dots as framed prints started selling. It was definitely rewarding to see the hard work resonate with so many people.
Ensuring we didn’t rest, following the successful evening show, Nina & Nadja hosted their very own book making masterclass. Giving valuable insight into their process, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the art of bookmaking, and even some inspiration to make their own. Who knows, maybe we’ll host more launches as a result of this class.
We spoke to Nadja about the opening night;
Speaking with Nadja (the Melbourne half of the project), we’re told, “The wonderful thing about this book launch and the bookmaking master class is the connection with other like-minded people.”
Nadja continues, “social media is great to discover new artists and keep up to date with friends, but nothing beats hanging out with fellow photographers, photo book lovers and having endless conversation.”
“There’s a spark and a fire that’s hard to light in the virtual world. If we could inspire just one person who visited Loop to print their work, make more photographs, publish a book or a zine… how amazing would that be!”
When asked if anything really stood out we discussed how that since Loop’s location, we have a wide variety of people popping into to see what all the fuss is about.
Additionally, we examined that not only was there general interest but more importantly, genuine intrigue in the project far outside our normal photographer networks.
It’s from these conversations that ideas develop and community grows. And with that, the pinnacle for Nadja was when those conversations led to more book sales. “For me that’s magnificent. (Of course, I very much appreciate the support of all our friends, too!!)”
For us here at Loop, that’s what this is all about. Giving a good, safe platform for photographers & artists to share their work, reach new customers and see their work in places farther than we could ever imagine.
